Senior Night for me and 10 Others

Game 16: (9-6-1)
17 October vs. BV West at Home (3-2 in the second overtime)




Senior Night began with our ceremonial marching from midfield to the boundary. Each senior came down the gauntlet (bordered by cheerleaders and teammates) as Leo Brown gave us a short bio of them as they walked with their parents whom the cheerleaders presented with flowers (Moms) and medals (Dads).

And this year, also my final year, I joined the procedures at the end.

If we wanted a memorable final Senior Night—well then, this was the Senior Night for that.

Nate LeBourveau Takes The Senior Night Kickoff

First of all, when you play BV West, the match definitely will be jazzed as they man-to-man mark, play a stopper/sweeper, attack every ball with energy, and have constant communication going on from the coaching box/field.

We handled it well, adjusting to the fact that not many fouls were going to be called. So, it was quite a game.

We continue to desire to play overtime as many times as we can. Here, we were down 2-1 with less than two minutes to go when Janeway got fouled at the top of the big box.

Up steped the foot of Omar Sarmiento. He hit a ground shot back post to tie the score at two. And into our 6th overtime, we went. (Now we are 4-1-1 in OT's.)


We battled scoreless through the first overtime, but then late in the second overtime, Ragan found Omar wide to initiate his long cross to the back post for Brody's headball across to Janeway, filling the slot run. 


What a way to end Senior Night. 

Actually, it did not end there.

We did have a wonderful reception inside with yummies, a Noah Morgan senior video, and the sharing of the senior gifts (a tradition where each senior parent presents their senior with their senior gift.)

#1 in the US pays us a visit

Game 2: (0-2-0) 5 September vs. Rockhurst at home (0-1) 2024 Stats EKL Standings How enjoyable has our Rockhurst Rivalary been—just extraordinary. Yes, this match used to draw 5,000 fans, complete with football-team cookouts and coaches coming in from all over the country, but Coach Pribyl's TOP DAWG tourney is no more. Oh, and tonight, the Chiefs play on NBC to open the NFL season at 7:20. So, a bit less than 5,000. But Halo did broadcast the match, so some people around the country got to watch both. It was a match that almost did not start, with lightning in the area. But the skies parted, the rain and lighting left, and it was a great night for soccer. And really, we had quite a match with very few opportunities to score for either team. We both had a few. The match was nearly 60 minutes in and still scoreless when our left wing picked up his second yellow card. So from that point on, we had to play the Rock with only 10 guys. The Final Day of the Saints Classic

Game 5: (3-2-0) 14 September vs. Kapaun Mt. Carmel (2-2) at 3:00 (3-1) 2024 Stats EKL Standings Saints Alums with 2024 Varsity We came into the third and final day of the Saints Classic, playing well but exhausted. The match reinforced both items. Kapaun jumped on us early, even though Parker set up perfectly. We appear to block the shot away from him.  But before that, we lost Bobby Bjorseth, as his leg had started swelled up. He would not be able to play any more of the match. The good news was Kitts did make the match. We were able insert some fresh legs into the lineup to stay pretty solid in the back we thought. But his stamina would only allow him to play, but about, ten minutes at a time.  We actually had to call Oliver Sarmiento and Alex Fuentes, two of our extended guys, to have them suit up for the second half.
