We return to ODAC after 15 years

Game 8: (4-3-1)
24 September vs. Olathe South at ODAC (4-3 in double overtime)

We entered today's match against an Olathe South team that has played the best teams in the city to one-goal matches. We had added Noah Morgan to our injury list. So, Michael was to have replaced him in the starting lineup, with Oliver and Grady getting the call-up. We, however, had a player late, so Michael started at the "6," and Lynch went to left back.

I know we have been playing many minutes and games with a tiny bench. We came out a bit lethargic (not too surprising) and paid an immediate price, giving up an early goal. To our credit, we tied it up 12 minutes later on just a great goal: Omar bent a ball back post from 30 for a Siebert head ball.

We came out in the second half and played well. With four minutes left in the match, we led 3-1, and that was with a goal called back for a questionable "offsides."

And then—inexplicably, we gave up two bad goals in less than two minutes.

So, here we were again in overtime. The first overtime was scoreless, but then, with only three minutes left in the second overtime, Brody Siebert completed the hat trick on a Spencer Ragan throw-in.

I know we let down there with a 2 goal lead and less than four to play, but for the boys to push themselves through another two overtimes, and this time to get a much-needed win—well that says a lot about the character of these guys.

We bust over .500 as we head to our third match of the week this Saturday at one o'clock against Columbia Rock Bridge in the 810 Classic.

We have reached mid-season.

We have a very tough stretch coming up: 5 games in 7 days. We will be able to add Santiago soon, but we will still be playing short-handed.

But this was a nice win!

Happy Homecoming. (Go Joseph)

MOM: Brody Siebert

STATS:

First Half:

Saints: Shots: 8 (6) Corners: Fuentes

18:21 Siebert (Zinkus pushes it wide to Kitts who pushes it up to Omar wide for a strike to the back post for the head-in)—just a great goal.

Falcons: Shots: 7 (4) Corners: 0

32:30 #7 (counterattack off our throw-in—yep, again.  Starts with a long pass to their man under midfield, moves forward with a pass followed by a square cross at the top of the box)

Second Half:

Saints: Shots: 3 (3) Corners: 5 (Siebert 2, Befort, Omar, Kitts)

30:20 Siebert (well, Christmas comes a bit early for Brody as Spencer heads it forward for a Wineberg hustle touch, up in the air that the Olathe South centerback continues, heading it over his keeper and to an on-coming Siebert).

15:24 Befort (Joseph runs a give-and-go with Omar and sends the 50/50 through-ball back to Befort, but Joseph wins it and knocks it in)

Falcons: Shots: 5 (3) Corners:0

4:15 #17: (long ball over our left back who does not retrace to tertiary, nor does our centerback move to secondary as Souh squares it twice before the finish. You get tired, and you forget your fundamentals.)

3:07 #10 (ball crossed for the header finish)

Overtimes:

Saiints: Shots: 3 (1) Corners: 0

3:07 Siebert (Ragan's long throw gets miscleared to the mid-post for the Brody hat trick. We set up well here, and we make our runs, and we win the match.)

Flacons:

Shots: 0 Corners: 0
