#1 in the US pays us a visit

Game 2: (0-2-0)
5 September vs. Rockhurst at home (0-1)

How enjoyable has our Rockhurst Rivalary been—just extraordinary.

Yes, this match used to draw 5,000 fans, complete with football-team cookouts and coaches coming in from all over the country, but Coach Pribyl's TOP DAWG tourney is no more. Oh, and tonight, the Chiefs play on NBC to open the NFL season at 7:20. So, a bit less than 5,000.

But Halo did broadcast the match, so some people around the country got to watch both. It was a match that almost did not start, with lightning in the area. But the skies parted, the rain and lighting left, and it was a great night for soccer.

And really, we had quite a match with very few opportunities to score for either team. We both had a few. The match was nearly 60 minutes in and still scoreless when our left wing picked up his second yellow card. So from that point on, we had to play the Rock with only 10 guys.

We thought our guys played so well and so hard those last 20 minutes. About four minutes later, Rockhurst scored a controversial goal on a beautiful ground shot to the back post. That's where it ended, although we did create a couple more goal-scoring opportunities.

Once we got into the lineup of Janeway at the "10" in a 4-2-3-0 we played evenly with Rock again. It took us a few minutes, and they scored in the interim between the red card and the Janeway-to-the-10. We commend our guys -- and the backline (Kitts, Morgan, Laws, Rutter, Bjorseth)—all of them were so good, and a special shoutout to Miles and Greyson (check it out)—next-level defense for 80 minutes!

We wish Coach Darby and his group the best for the rest of this season. They have a very nice team again and a special opportunity.

Our guys should be proud of the way we played (but we are going to actually have to score a goal to win a match) as we gear up for the Saints Classic next weekend, the weekend that will end with the alumni match.

MOM: Spencer Ragan (What a match from our "6" and "10" tonight!)
