  Game 1: (0-1-0) 30 August vs. St. James for STRIPE OUT (0-1) 2024 Stats EKL Standings Tonight, we open season 37 at Saint Thomas Aquinas with our well-known charity event, this year, once again, a Stripe Out for ALS, honoring former soccer dad, John Whigham—he was here last year for his last Stripe Out. Still, we continue to raise money for his favorite charity "I Am ALS." We began the day with an all-team Mass at Ascension. Curt Whigham met us after Mass to give the boys some perspective on tonight's match and the background on this fundraiser.  Tim Zande coordinated this entire event (lots of work) and Cole Friedman (Robek's) and Curt Whigham (Bogie Golf) are our lead sponsors! We are very grateful. We enter the 2024 campaign with one of the smallest varsity rosters I can recall. Game 0.5: New Blue Gold Match 28 August vs. Top 22 (7 goals scored) In our new approach to Blue-Gold, we play four 15-minute segments, with two featuring what looks like our Top 11, against our second 11. That first segment went 0-0 with our starters earning a corner and several shots not on goal. But by the time we got around to the 4th segment, featuring the same match-up, our starters won 3-0. 7:00 Siebert (Befort pushes the ball upfield to Janeway who attacks the baseline, sliding a T-ball to Brody) 4: 00 Omar (Befort hits a through-ball to Siebert on his diagonal run which he gathers before driving a t-ball to the slot for the finish.) 0:10 Siebert (Befort goes over the top to Brody who touches it twice before finishing) The middle two 15-minute segments offered up two balanced squads. Game 0: Old-Time Blue Gold (Varsity vs JV) 24 August vs. JV (8-0) Beyond Pancake Breakfast 2024 It was the official kick-off to the season: Pancake Breakfast and PreSeason Meeting, a day that always ends with a good old-fashioned Blue-Gold match. (Our senior moms, under the direction of Mrs. Ragan, created quite an event to start the year.) The game featured—really—the first time this year our Varsity actually playing as a team against our JV. These matches tend to be lopsided, although throughout Saint Thomas Aquinas history some of these matches have ended 2-1, 3-2, etc. This match wasn't one of those matches. In two, thirty-minute halves the varsity laid out an 8-0 spread of our junior varsity. Who knows what this means. I do, however, think Coach Eric will have a very good JV this fall. Brody Siebert, our 140-Beeper striker, scored 4 times. Our new left-wing, Omar Sarmiento, added two assists and a goal. So we did feature some early offensive star power against the JV while the
